Siem Reap is one of those places that completely exceeded our expectations during our trip to Cambodia. Most people come here for Angkor Wat (which is obviously incredible), but the city itself has such a relaxed, social vibe that we ended up loving just as much.
When it comes to deciding where to stay in Siem Reap, it can feel a bit overwhelming at first. There are so many hostels, guesthouses, and hotels to choose from—and they’re all pretty affordable compared to other parts of Southeast Asia.
During our time in Siem Reap, we stayed in both Onederz Hostel and Lub d, so this guide is based on our real experience, plus a few extra places we came across (or wish we’d booked).

If it’s your first time in Siem Reap, this is hands down the best place to stay. The Old French Quarter Siem Reap area is right in the centre, close to markets, brunch places, restaurants, and Pub Street.
It’s also super convenient for travel to Angkor Wat, you’ll be picked up easily by tuk tuk or tour, usually within 15–20 minutes.
Best for: First-time visitors, convenience, nightlife

Around Pub Street & Night Market (Best for Social Travellers)
This is where most backpackers end up. It’s busy, fun, and packed with bars, street food, and cheap eats.
We stayed near here at Onederz, and it made everything incredibly easy—especially after long days exploring temples.

Riverside Area (Best for Couples & Relaxed Stays)
If you want something a bit quieter but still central, the riverside is a great option. You’re close enough to everything but without the constant noise.

We stayed at Onederz during our time in Siem Reap and honestly, it was one of our favourite hostels in Cambodia.
The rooftop pool was an absolute lifesaver in the heat, and the social vibe made it really easy to meet people. But the biggest win? The 4am breakfast for Angkor Wat sunrise—such a small thing, but it made the whole experience so much smoother.
Location-wise, it’s perfect. You’re just a short walk from Pub Street, so everything is right on your doorstep.
Lub d Cambodia Siem Reap (Where We Stayed)

Lub d is a bit more “upmarket hostel” and definitely one of the best Siem Reap hotels if you want comfort without going full luxury.
The pool area is massive, the rooms are modern, and the whole place just feels really well designed. It’s also great if you need to get some work done—good WiFi and plenty of chill spaces.
It’s slightly quieter than the Pub Street area but still within easy walking distance.
Jaya House River Park (Luxury Pick)

If you’re looking to treat yourself, Jaya House Siem Reap is one of the best luxury hotels in Siem Reap.
We didn’t stay here, but it came up everywhere during our research—and for good reason. The hotel has two stunning pools, beautiful gardens, and a focus on sustainability.
It’s slightly outside the centre, but that just means more peace and quiet after a busy day at Angkor Wat.
Golden Temple Boutique (Mid-Range Favourite)

Golden Temple Boutique is one of those places that feels much more expensive than it actually is.
With a gorgeous pool, spa, and super central location, it’s a great option if you want a bit of comfort without splashing out on a full luxury hotel.

Eightfold Urban Resort is one of those places that feels like a bit of a hidden gem in Siem Reap. It’s a 5-star boutique resort, but compared to other luxury hotels in the area, it’s surprisingly affordable.
Located just outside the main centre, it strikes a really nice balance—you’re close enough to everything, but far enough away to actually relax after a long day exploring Angkor Wat.
The standout here is definitely the pool setup. Some rooms have direct pool access, and the whole space is surrounded by greenery, which makes it feel more like a private retreat than a city hotel.
Rooms are modern, spacious, and come with all the extras you’d expect (air con, balcony, big bathrooms), and the hotel also offers things like tuk tuk transfers and tours—which is super handy if you’re planning your Angkor Wat visits.
If you’re looking for a luxury hotel in Siem Reap without spending a fortune, this is a really solid option.
Viroth’s Hotel
Price: $100–200 per night
Best For: Couples, boutique luxury
Standout Feature: Retro design & large pool
This is one of the most stylish boutique hotels in Siem Reap. The design is stunning, and the pool area looks like something out of a magazine.

Pavillon d’Orient Boutique Hotel is a great option if you’re prioritising where to stay in Siem Reap for Angkor Wat.
It’s located slightly outside the centre on the road towards the temples, which means:

It also has two saltwater pools, which is always a bonus.

Where to Stay in Siem Reap for Angkor Wat
If visiting Angkor Wat is your main reason for travelling (which it probably is), don’t stress too much about location.
Most hotels in Siem Reap are:

- Able to arrange early morning transport
That said, staying centrally (Old French Quarter or near Pub Street) makes logistics easier, especially for those early starts.
