Bali, also known as the Island of the Gods, is full of incredible landscapes, but few places capture its natural beauty quite like Kanto Lampo Waterfall.

Located in the Gianyar Regency, this stunning Bali waterfall has become one of the most popular spots for visitors staying in Ubud and beyond. It’s dramatic, photogenic, and surprisingly easy to reach on a day trip.

That being said, there are a few things we wish we had known before visiting Kanto Lampo. From entrance fee details to photography tips, this guide will cover everything you need for the perfect experience.

What is Kanto Lampo Waterfall?

Kanto Lampo Waterfall is a multi-tiered cascade flowing down jagged rock formations in a lush jungle setting.

Unlike some of Bali’s more remote waterfalls, this one is easy to access as it’s close to Ubud, Ideal for photography and perfect for a short adventure stop.

It’s one of those places that feels peaceful… until you realise it’s also become a very popular Instagram destination.

Still, the experience is absolutely worth it! 

Where is Kanto Lampo Waterfall Located?

Kanto Lampo Waterfall is located in the Gianyar Regency of Bali, Indonesia.

Travel times:

• ~30 minutes from Ubud
• ~1 hour from Canggu
• ~1.5–2 hours from Bali airport

You can easily find it on Google Maps by searching “Kanto Lampo Waterfall”. We also recommend Waze as one of the apps you must download for Bali!

How to Get to Kanto Lampo Waterfall from Ubud

If you’re staying in Ubud, getting to Kanto Lampo is simple.

Best transport options:

1. Scooter (budget option)

• Cheap and flexible
• Around 30-40 minutes from Ubud
• Ideal if you’re comfortable riding in Bali traffic

2. Private car + driver (best option)

• Most comfortable choice
• Can combine multiple waterfalls in one day
• Easy to book via hotels or apps

We highly recommend a private car if you’re planning a day trip to the waterfalls. Our driver took us to a few different locations on the same day around Ubud so it was a great option for us.

Kanto Lampo Waterfall Entrance Fee (2026 Update)

The Kanto Lampo Waterfall entrance fee is:

20,000 IDR per person

This is roughly $1–$2 per person, paid at the entrance ticket booth before heading down. This is cash only so try and bring some small notes with you. 

What to Expect When Visiting Kanto Lampo

Your visit will typically go like this:

1. Arrive at the parking area
2. Walk to the ticket booth
3. Pay the entrance fee
4. Descend the slippery stairs to the waterfall
5. Reach the river base

The final section involves steep steps, so take your time, especially in wet conditions.

Once you arrive, the waterfall opens up into a dramatic rock wall with cascading water flowing over multiple levels. It’s small but incredibly scenic!

Kanto Lampo Waterfall Photos & Instagram Experience

Let’s be honest, this place is famous for one thing: the Kanto Lampo waterfall photos.  The waterfall is extremely popular with travel influencers and photographers alike. 

There are local photographers at the bottom who will help you pose, take professional-style shots and even offer edited photos.

They’re “free”, but tipping is expected (you choose the amount). Honestly, it’s worth it; they know what they are doing and are super nice, plus you come away with some cool shots.

Can you swim in the Kanto Lampo Waterfall? 

Absolutely! We went for a quick swim after climbing up the waterfall and getting some photos. There isn’t heaps of space to swim around in so if it is busy during your visit then you might be a bit limited. 

As Alex demonstrates in the photos, the cove in which the waterfall is located is pretty shady meaning that the water is very chilly and not that deep.

Best Time to Visit Kanto Lampo Waterfall

The best time to visit is during the dry season (April-September), and in the early morning, this way you’ll avoid the midday crowds and the heavy rain that comes in the rainy season. 

9. What to bring with you to the Kanto Lampo Waterfall? 

Water shoes

One thing I wish we had taken with us during our visit were water shoes! We went barefoot, but the rocks around the waterfall are really slippery, and we would have appreciated some extra grip.

Towel 

Stupidly, we also didn’t bring a towel for our visit and ended up sitting quite soggy for the drive back. Therefore, do make sure to bring a change of clothes and a towel when you visit Kanto Lampo Waterfall.

Waterproof phone case

Kanto Lampo waterfall is a location you will want to take tonnes of photos, so you might want to bring a waterproof phone case! You can get the flimsy bag-type ones all over Bali, but I would recommend taking a more sturdy waterproof phone case that is a bit more secure.

Is Kanto Lampo Worth Visiting?

Yes, absolutely.

Even though it’s no longer a hidden gem, it still offers:

• Incredible natural beauty
• A unique waterfall setting
• One of the best photography spots near Ubud
• A fun, short adventure experience

It’s one of those places that’s become popular for a reason. If you’re building a Bali itinerary, this is a must-add stop!

Tegenungan Waterfall – The second most popular waterfall after Kanto Lampo and it has loads of great cafes and restaurants nearby to enjoy.

Sekumpul Waterfall – Bali’s highest waterfall and perfect for pictures you don’t want to get wet for!

Kanto Lampo is one of those Bali experiences that should be on everyone’s Bali bucket list, its:

It’s not the most hidden waterfall anymore, but it’s still 100% worth visiting, especially if you’re staying in Ubud.
