Day One: Old Town & Iconic Landmarks
Your first day in Prague is all about exploring the historic centre.

Old Town Square & Astronomical Clock
Start your morning in Old Town Square, the heart of the city. This is where you’ll find the famous Prague Astronomical Clock, one of Prague’s most iconic sights.
Honest opinion: We’ll be real – the clock was a bit anticlimactic. It’s cool to see, but don’t expect anything mind-blowing. Still, it’s worth stopping by since you’re already there.
Climb the nearby tower for one of the best views over the city if you have time.

Join a Walking Tour (Optional but Recommended)
If it’s your first time visiting, this is a great place to start a walking tour.
There are plenty of free walking tours available that cover the history of the city and major landmarks. We didn’t do one ourselves, and honestly, we wish we had. It would’ve added much more context to what we were seeing.

Charles Bridge
Next, take a short minute walk over to the stunning Charles Bridge. This is one of the most famous landmarks in Europe, lined with statues and offering amazing views of the Vltava River.
Travel tip: Go early in the morning or later in the evening to avoid the crowds as it gets very busy during the day.
Lesser Town (Malá Strana)
Cross the bridge into the charming Lesser Town. This area feels quieter and more local, with beautiful streets, hidden gardens, and great spots for lunch.
John Lennon Wall
A short walk away is the colourful John Lennon Wall.
Our experience: It’s definitely cool to see in person, but it gets very crowded. We actually had to queue just to take a photo, which took away from the experience a bit.

Evening by the Vltava River
End your first day with a walk along the river. If you have the budget, consider a river cruise. We didn’t do one ourselves, but they looked amazing, especially at sunset.
Otherwise, just grab a drink and enjoy the views. Prague at night is something special.
Day Two: Castles, Views & Nightlife

Prague Castle
Start day two with a visit to Prague Castle, one of the biggest highlights of the city.
Our experience: We loved it, but be prepared, it’s very hilly with lots of steps.
We explored it on our own, but looking back, we wish we’d booked a guided tour to understand the history better.
Travel tip: Watch out for small scams. We got caught out by someone offering to let us hold an owl for a photo, then insisting we pay. Just politely say no and keep walking.
Petrin Hill & Tower
Next, head to Petrin Hill, one of the best free viewpoints in the city. Climb up to the Petrin Tower for panoramic views. It’s a bit of a walk, but totally worth it!
Lunch & Czech Food
Food was one of our favourite parts of Prague.
- Big portions
- Very affordable
- Lots of hearty local dishes
And of course… the beer! Czech beer is famously cheap and some of the best in Europe.

Dancing House
In the afternoon, visit the unique Dancing House. It’s a quick stop, but worth seeing for something a bit different from the city’s historic architecture.
Getting Around: Tram System
While we mostly explored on foot, we also used Prague’s tram system. In our experience:
It felt confusing at first, but once you figure it out, it’s actually one of the easiest and best ways to get around the city. Buses and metro are also available but realistically, the tram is the best method!
Nightlife & Pub Crawl
Prague has some of the best nightlife in Europe!
We booked a pub crawl and had an amazing time, t’s a great way to meet people and experience the city after dark.

Helpful Guides for Your Trip to Prague
If you’re planning a bigger Europe trip, these might help:

2 Days in Prague FAQs
Are two days in Prague enough?
Yes — 2 days in Prague is enough to see the main highlights, but if you have extra time, it’s worth staying longer.
Is Prague safe at night?
Prague is considered one of the safest cities in Europe. It has a very low crime rate and we felt incredibly safe during our time in Prague, even while on nights out!
That being said, you should always be cautious when in a new city, especially if travelling solo. Be aware of your surroundings and keep your belongings safe as petty theft and pickpocketing are common in every European city.
How much should you budget for a weekend in Prague?
Based on current travel trends, you should ideally budget for around $40-$60 per day, per person in Prague. We spent on average $60 a day between the two of us including accommodation which is around 1,700CZK.
What currency do they use in Prague?
Czech Koruna or CZK.
Is Prague a good place to party?
Yes! Prague has very cheap alcohol, especially beer. They also have a huge amount of pubs, outdoor beer gardens, bars and clubs. As it’s a hotbed for people visiting for long weekends, you’ll be able to meet loads of people and make friends for life.
We have a whole post dedicated to the best party locations in Europe and Prague definitely makes the list!
What other countries are as cheap as Prague?
We found multiple other cities in Europe that were just as affordable and beautiful to visit. These were Budapest, Krakow, Bratislava and Zagreb.
When is the best time to visit Prague?
The best time to visit Prague is in Spring and Autumn. Prague gets really busy in the summertime and that does mean the prices do increase, however it is still a very affordable city to visit. Prague gets really cold in winter but the beautiful city still gets a lot of tourism during the Christmas period as it is such a magical place to visit!
We visited Prague in mid-November and while it was quite cold, it was a perfect time to visit for us.
What should I avoid in Prague?
- Currency exchange scams
- Overpriced restaurants in tourist areas
- Street “photo” scams (like the owl situation we experienced)
Final Thoughts: Prague in 48 Hours
Spending 2 days in Prague is the perfect introduction to this incredible city.
From walking across Charles Bridge, to exploring Prague Castle, to enjoying cheap beer by the Vltava River, there’s something here for every type of traveller.
While some attractions can feel a bit touristy, Prague’s charm, history, and atmosphere more than make up for it.
If you’re planning a wider Europe trip from your home destinations (whether that’s the UK or beyond), Prague is a stop you won’t regret adding.
