If you’re planning a Thailand travel adventure, chances are Phuket, Thailand is already on your list. Known for its beautiful beaches, vibrant nightlife, cultural landmarks and easy access to incredible island destinations, Phuket is one of the most popular places to visit in Thailand!
During our trip to Phuket, we quickly realised there is far more to the island than just partying on Bangla Walking Street or relaxing on Patong Beach. From colourful old streets and hilltop viewpoints to stunning temples and day trips to the famous Koh Phi Phi Islands, there are plenty of amazing places to see in Phuket.
This Phuket itinerary covers some of the must-do things in Phuket, including beaches, cultural sites and unique experiences we personally loved during our visit. Whether you have 3 days in Phuket or closer to a week, this guide will help you plan your Phuket Thailand itinerary.

Day 1: Patong Beach, Bangla Walking Street & Simon Cabaret
Most travellers start their Phuket itinerary in Patong, the island’s busiest and most energetic area. While it’s definitely touristy, it’s also home to some of the most famous Phuket things to do.
Relax on Patong Beach
A great way to start your Phuket trip is with a relaxed beach day at Patong Beach. The long stretch of sand is lined with restaurants, beach bars and water sports, making it one of the most popular beaches in Phuket.
You can spend the afternoon swimming, enjoying fresh fruit from beach vendors or simply relaxing with a drink while taking in the views of the Andaman Sea.
Patong Beach is also a great place to watch the sunset before heading out for dinner or exploring the nightlife.
Explore Bangla Walking Street
Once the sun sets, the energy in Patong shifts dramatically as Bangla Walking Street comes to life.
This famous nightlife street is packed with bars, clubs, street performers and late-night food stalls. Even if partying isn’t your thing, it’s still worth walking through at least once as part of your Phuket itinerary just to experience the atmosphere. While Bangla road has a seedy reputation, and there definitely is that aspect of it, there are some nice bars with live music that we really enjoyed.
One of the highlights here is the variety of street food, where you can find everything from grilled seafood to classic Thai snacks.
Watch the Simon Cabaret Show
To finish your first day in Phuket, head to Simon Cabaret, one of the most famous entertainment shows on the island.
The performances feature elaborate costumes, impressive choreography and high-energy dance routines. It’s one of the most unique experiences in Phuket and definitely something different from the usual nightlife scene.
Day 2: Phuket Old Town, Khao Rang Hill & the Upside Down House
Day two of this Phuket Thailand itinerary focuses on exploring some of the island’s cultural attractions and unique landmarks.
Explore Phuket Old Town
Phuket Old Town is easily one of the most colourful and charming places to see in Phuket.
The area is known for its beautiful Sino-Portuguese buildings, vibrant streets and laid-back cafés. Walking through Old Town feels completely different from the busy beach areas and offers a glimpse into Phuket’s history.
There are plenty of cute cafés, local markets and street art scattered throughout the neighbourhood, making it a great place to spend a few hours simply wandering and exploring.
Visit the Upside Down House
One of the more unusual Phuket things to do is visiting the Upside Down House.
As the name suggests, this attraction features a fully furnished house built completely upside down. Every room is flipped, creating some fun and quirky photo opportunities.
While it’s a fairly quick stop, it’s a fun addition to any Phuket itinerary, especially if you enjoy unusual attractions.
Sunset at Khao Rang Hill Viewpoint
For sunset, head to Khao Rang Hill Viewpoint at Khao Rang Health Park.
From the top of the hill, you’ll get beautiful views across Phuket Town and out towards the surrounding hills. It’s a peaceful place to escape the crowds and one of the best viewpoints on the island.
Just watch out for the monkeys, it isnt the best stop for a picnic.
Day 3: Temples, Big Buddha & Karon Beach
No Phuket itinerary would be complete without visiting some of the island’s most famous temples and landmarks.
Wat Chai Thararam (Wat Chalong)
Wat Chai Thararam, commonly known as Wat Chalong, is the largest and most important temple in Phuket.
The temple complex is beautifully decorated and offers a fascinating insight into Thai culture and religion. Walking around the grounds is a peaceful experience and it’s definitely one of the Phuket must see attractions.
Remember to dress respectfully when visiting temples, this is a crucial thing to know when visiting Thailand!
Visit the Big Buddha
Another iconic landmark in Phuket Thailand is the Big Buddha.
Sitting high on Nakkerd Hill, this massive white marble statue overlooks much of the island and offers incredible panoramic views. The drive up the hill is scenic, and the viewpoint at the top is one of the most impressive in Phuket.
It’s easily one of the most memorable places to see in Phuket.
Relax at Karon Beach
After a morning of sightseeing, head to Karon Beach for another relaxing beach day.
Compared to Patong, Karon Beach is much quieter and more spacious. The soft sand and clear water make it a perfect spot to relax for the afternoon.
Day 4: Phi Phi Islands Day Trip
One of the biggest highlights of our Phuket trip was taking a day trip to the stunning Koh Phi Phi Islands.
Located about 45 km from Phuket, these famous islands are known for their dramatic limestone cliffs, turquoise water and white sandy beaches.
Many tours include stops at:
• Maya Bay
• Phi Phi Don
• Monkey Beach
• Snorkelling spots around the islands
The scenery around the Koh Phi Phi Islands is truly breathtaking and easily one of the most memorable parts of any Thailand travel itinerary.
If you have the time, we’d actually recommend spending a few nights on the islands rather than only doing a day trip.
Optional Day 5: Phang Nga Bay or More Beach Time
If you have extra days in Phuket, there are still plenty of incredible destinations to explore.
One of the most popular tours is visiting Phang Nga Bay, famous for its towering limestone karsts rising out of emerald green water. Many Phang Nga Bay tours include canoeing through sea caves and visiting the famous James Bond Island.
Alternatively, you could simply enjoy another relaxed beach day exploring some of Phuket’s quieter beaches.
Elephant Sanctuaries in Phuket
You’ll likely see many elephant tours advertised around Phuket. While elephants are an important part of Thai culture, elephant tourism is a complicated issue.
Personally, we don’t recommend visiting elephant sanctuaries because it can be very difficult to determine which ones are truly ethical. Many places still involve practices that can harm the animals.
If visiting an elephant sanctuary is something you are considering during your Phuket itinerary, we strongly recommend doing thorough research beforehand to ensure the sanctuary prioritises the welfare of the elephants.
Best Time to Visit Phuket
One of the most common questions when planning a Phuket itinerary is when the best time to visit actually is. Phuket is a year-round Thailand travel destination, but the experience can vary quite a bit depending on the season.
The dry season (November to April) is generally considered the best time to visit Phuket, Thailand. During these months you’ll usually experience sunny days, calm seas and ideal conditions for boat trips to nearby destinations like the Koh Phi Phi Islands or Phang Nga Bay.
The rainy season (May to October) brings heavier rainfall and rougher seas, but it can still be a great time to visit if you don’t mind occasional tropical showers. Hotels are often cheaper during this period and popular places to see in Phuket are usually less crowded.
We visited during the shoulder season and still had plenty of sunshine for beach days, sightseeing and exploring the island.
How to Get Around Phuket
Phuket is a large island, so planning how you’ll get around is an important part of any Phuket itinerary.
The easiest way to explore many of the Phuket things to do is by using taxis or ride-hailing apps like Grab, which are widely available around the island. These are particularly useful when travelling between beaches, temples and attractions like the Big Buddha.
You’ll also find local buses and songthaews (shared trucks) running between areas like Patong, Karon Beach, Phuket Old Town and Quepos-style local towns, although they can be less frequent.

How Much Does a Phuket Trip Cost?
Phuket can be surprisingly affordable depending on your travel style, which is one of the reasons it’s such a popular Thailand travel destination.
Budget travellers can find hostels and guesthouses from around £10–£20 per night, while mid-range hotels typically cost between £40–£100 per night depending on location.
Food is also very affordable, especially if you enjoy street food or eat at local restaurants. A typical Thai meal might cost £2–£6, while western restaurants and beachside dining experiences will cost a bit more.
Tours are another cost to consider when planning your Phuket itinerary. A Phi Phi Islands tour or a Phang Nga Bay tour usually costs between £40–£80, depending on the type of boat and what’s included.
Overall, Phuket offers a great mix of budget and luxury options, making it suitable for almost any style of traveller.
